A Glimpse into the Present and Past

Altonaer Str. 7, 10557

In an unassuming corner of Altonaer Straße in the Hansaviertel, there is a display window in the passageway of Schwedenhaus showcasing both recent and older photographs, each evoking different memories of the neighbourhood.

About ten years ago, the local residents' association received permission from neighbouring tenants to use this seldom-occupied display window. Petra, a member of the Hansaviertel Residents Association, initiated the use of the window as an exhibition space for the association, aiming to present perspectives of the Hansaviertel. She wanted to transform the display into a “window into the past,” making the charm of Hansaviertel's changing times tangible. Most of the photographs on display are hers, as she spent her childhood and youth in this building along with her parents and has been living here again for over twenty years.

While the photos slowly fade from exposure to the sun, they remain in place, inviting visitors to pause, admire the diverse images, and immerse themselves in nostalgic memories of the Hansaviertel.

If you also feel connected to Hansaviertel and would like to share your memories and photographs with others, feel free to contact the Hansaviertel Residents' Association. Your story or ideas could breathe new life into this display window, continuously sparking curiosity and a sense of connection in its visitors.
