RECALL is a project dedicated to discovering the hidden gems and unique experiences of Berlin’s Hansaviertel.

By uncovering personal stories, historical significance and local culture, we aim to highlight the interesting aspects that make this neighbourhood special today.

The Recall project was not created by chance or a spur of the moment decision; it was created through the collective efforts and passions of many. Today, I am excited to share the journey that led me to uncover the forgotten beauty of the Hansaviertel.

In October 2022, I visited the Hansa Library for the first time. This visit sparked my curiosity about the Hansaviertel and gave me an insight into this distinctive part of Berlin. With its abundance of green spaces and tranquil atmosphere, the Hansaviertel stood out from other areas of the city. My research soon led me to the neighbourhood’s most famous landmark: the Interbau 57 complex. But this raised new questions: What are the personal stories of the people who live here? How do their memories and daily lives intertwine with the history of this unique place?

In search of answers, I started a joint project with the Hansa Library in 2023 to uncover forgotten memories and stories of the Hansaviertel. From May to July, I stationed myself at the library, playing the role of ‘driver’ on the Hansa Happened Train, engaging with local residents and collecting their memories. I also planned a tour as part of the project. The experience was invaluable and helped me to refocus the project for a more complete presentation.

In 2024 I relaunched the project under the name Recall. It is more than a collection of stories that unfolded here some time ago in the distant past; it is a journey of rediscovery, reconnecting with the beauty that time has obscured. I hope you enjoy this exploration and the opportunity to relive these treasured memories with me.
